BIP509― Biblical Preaching in Practice

    Elective for MDiv or DMin― 3 credits. Lab Fee applies. Prerequisite― BIP503 Biblical Preaching

    The course material is minimal and blends the best of classic and foundational preaching techniques with common sense and timely tips without unnecessary drudgery.

    Student will submit various expository exercises, as well as compose and submit a homily as a document and as a video.

    Textbook: A Little Handbook for Preachers: Ten Practical Ways to a Better Sermon by Sunday, Mary S. Hulst, 2016 edition, 205 pages, Paperback, Amazon Prime $14.66.

    Textbook may be available at local seminaries for checkout to those who purchase library cards (contact a local seminary for details).

    Dr. Mary S. Hulst has served as Calvin College Chaplain since 2009 and preaches weekly to its students. Prior to that, she spent eight years serving as the senior pastor at Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, and also taught for one year in the Communication Department at Calvin College and two years at Calvin Theological Seminary. Education- BC of classical studies, Calvin College; MDiv, Calvin Theological Seminary; PhD, University of Illinois.
